The Countdown for the Gloria Ironman 70.3 Turkey is on!

The Ironman race, named Gloria Ironman 70.3 Turkey as it was last year, will be held on October 23, in Belek, Antalya. The race consists of three different events; swimming, bike riding, and running, and is based on self control and strength.

This year’s race will be organised in memory of Nuri Özaltın

This year’s Gloria Ironman 70.3 Turkey will be held in memory of Nuri Özaltın, the Founding President of Özaltın Holdings, who passed away in July. Additionally, a team will be formed in his memory, with Saadettin Saran completing the 1.9km swimming race, Kerem Özçapkın cycling the 90km bike race, and Bahar Saygılı completing the 21.1km run.

Approximately 1000 Triathletes from 41 countries will compete

150 000 triathletes compete in the world’s most popular and well-attended sports organisation annually, in 94 different locations in the world, including 23 in Europe, 19 in Asia, and 52 in the United States. The Ironman Turkey competition will have the support of 300 volunteers and 1000 workers, with approximately 1000 triathletes from 50 countries competing in the race.

IRONMAN CEO Paul Huddle stated that Belek, Antalya is a very convenient location for the race, with ideal conditions to allow athletes to achieve their best results, including trails intertwined with nature, and ideal weather conditions for both racing and holidaying. He said that with the quality organisation by Turset Project Management and IXXALP, and hosting by Gloria Hotels & Resorts, the race taking place on Sunday, October 23rd will be a success. The race will include a broad range of participants, and will be followed by the award ceremony, slot distribution, DJ performance, and a show by the famous musician, Shantel.

As last year, the race will be broadcast by CNNTürk, and DreamTv, with Radyo D supporting the race with their broadcasts and events.

All race tracks of Gloria Ironman 70.3 Turkey have changed this year

The swimming event that took place at Belek Beachpark last year will now take place at Gloria Serenity Resort beach. As the bicycle track has been moved from Gloria Serenity Resort to a completely flat course, giving the advantage of acceleration, athletes will have the opportunity to achieve their “Personal Best”. The run will be completed by making two laps of the Gloria Serenity Resort, Gloria Golf Resort and Gloria Golf Club, and then the race will finish at the Gloria Sports Arena.

Taking place in Turkey for the first time in 2015, the race had a 82% satisfaction rate, among over 100 Ironman races of last year, and this ensured that last year’s triathletes chose to participate again this year, as well as encouraging many amateur athletes who have never participated in Ironman or attended a triathlon to compete.

The Özaltın Holdings Board Member and Gloria Sports Arena Project Manager Elif Özdemir stated that with an organisation as big as the Gloria Ironman 70.3 Turkey held
in 2015, taking place in Turkey, it proved for the first time that Turkey could be home to global events, sending a significant message to the world.
